The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) offers far more than books. Across 15 branches in Pulaski and Perry counties, CALS provides learning opportunities, family programs, digital resources, and practical tools for everyday life.
From the renovated Main Library downtown to neighborhood branches throughout the city, CALS creates welcoming spaces for residents of all ages. Families can attend story times, music programs, educational events, and seasonal activities throughout the year.
One of the most popular programs is the annual Summer Reading Club. Children and adults can track books, movies, and library activities to earn prizes while building lifelong reading habits. Family-Friendly Programs

CALS offers much more than books and movies. The CALS Tool Library at the Dee Brown Library allows patrons to borrow equipment for home improvement and DIY projects.
Patrons can also check out fishing poles, hotspots, telescopes, birdwatching kits, musical instruments, literacy kits, and sports equipment. These resources help residents explore new hobbies without making a major purchase.
The monthly Repair Café gives community members another valuable resource. Volunteers help repair clothing, bicycles, small appliances, and other household items while teaching practical skills.
Learning Through Food and Community
Several CALS branches feature teaching kitchens where patrons can learn cooking skills and connect with others. Programs range from cooking demonstrations to community meals and educational workshops.
CALS also supports local families through initiatives such as Be Mighty Little Rock. During the summer, children and teens can access free meals at participating library branches. Many locations also offer community refrigerators and food pantries that help address food insecurity.
Books, Authors, and Digital Resources
Book lovers can enjoy the annual Six Bridges Book Festival, one of Arkansas’s premier literary events. The festival brings nationally recognized authors to Little Rock for discussions, presentations, and community events.
Library cardholders also gain access to an extensive digital collection. Patrons can borrow ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, movies, music, graphic novels, and television shows from their phones, tablets, or computers.
